The iPhone 13 Pro Max and the Galaxy S21 Ultra both cost over $1,000. Yet in 2022, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have an excellent smartphone. Many smartphones today are fast, have excellent battery life, and have an amazing cameras.

Who makes affordable phones, anyway?

Apple, Samsung, Google Pixel, and Moto G are all on the list, along with some eye-catching, low-cost, but gorgeous, smooth-running devices. Make sure to finish the article because there will be at least one unexpected surprise.

If you’re looking for an affordable smartphone with an excellent camera, you’ll have no trouble finding one: Google Pixel 4a. No pre-sets are necessary. Just press the shutter button, and the camera app will take care of the rest.

Reasons To Buy:

The OLED display is larger, crisper, and brighter than those on the other top phones. The camera on the Pixel 4a is excellent for a budget phone. Thanks to the Snapdragon 730 G, the Pixel 4a is incredibly powerful. Those two features put the Pixel 4a at the very top of the ‘best affordable phone’ list.

We could have selected the iPhone SE to be our best affordable phone. The tough decision on which budget phone is the best comes down to preferences. This is a phone that belongs on everyone’s ‘best affordable phones’ list. The iPhone SE has incredible processing power thanks to the A13 Bionic chip. Also, the camera is amazing.

Reasons To Buy:

The lowest price Apple iPhone doesn’t feel like a budget phone at all. This is the best smartphone on the list, and it costs less than 500 bucks!

Reasons To Pass:

We personally prefer the display on the Google Pixel 4a, by a pretty wide margin. The iPhone SE’s camera lacks a night mode, and the bezels are quite big.

Reasons To Buy:

A stylus may very well be a deal-breaker for you if you have gotten used to one. Couple that with 5G connectivity and it’s no surprise why this already is, for many, the preferred phone under 500 dollars.

Reasons To Pass:

The screen is frustratingly dim. Stylus experiences some lag, at times.

4. Samsung Galaxy A51

Samsung Galaxy A51
Specs
  • Display: 6.5-inch OLED (2400×1080)
  • Carrier: Multiple
  • Cellular Technology: 5G
  • Ram: 4GB
  • CPU: Exynos 9611

OLED! The Galaxy A51 has a pretty decent camera, too.

This sharp, modestly priced Samsung phone has a pretty awesome screen for this price range!

Reasons To Buy:

This phone looks great, sounds great, and feels great. The battery life is very good, and the quad-lens camera gets the job done!

Reasons To Pass:

This phone feels just a little cheaper than the ones listed above it. It’s sturdy but unrugged. The display is very good, but the processor is lacking and often slow-running. Low light settings are quite problematic for the A51 camera.

It looks good, costs less, and the battery life is incredible!

This phone checks a lot of boxes, and the price tag is eye-catching. (In a good way.)

Motorola claims 3-day battery life and the overall design really looks impressive. You really can’t get a nicer-looking phone for this price, not even close.

6. TCL 10L

TCL 10L
TCL 10L
Specs
  • Display: 6.53-inch LCD (2340X1080)
  • Carrier: Multiple
  • Cellular Technology: 5G
  • Ram: 6 GB
  • CPU: Snapdragon 665
  • Storage: 64 GB
  • OS: Android 11.0
  • SIM: Single

You can’t find too many phones with displays this good for under 500 bucks. The TCL 10L can be found for less than $300.

Even as we get down the list, there are still cheap phones with impressive, luxurious features. The TCL 10L has a state-of-the-art design, at an insanely budget-friendly price.

Reasons To Buy:

If you’re the type who mostly just streams videos, and scrolls through social media on your phone, you may consider saving a bunch of cash, without sacrificing too much, by giving the TCL 10L a shot.

Reasons To Pass:

Beyond its attractive design and solid display, you may find this phone lacking in too many areas, such as processing power, camera quality, and sound capabilities.

7. Samsung Galaxy A42

Samsung Galaxy A4
Specs
  • Display: 6.6-inch OLED (1600×720)
  • Carrier: Multiple
  • Cellular Technology: 5G
  • Ram: 4 GB
  • CPU: Snapdragon 750
  • Storage: 128 GB
  • OS: Android 11.0
  • SIM: Single

5G connectivity, and a large screen, plus a nice low price make this mid-level Samsung a worthy addition to our Best budget phones list.

If you haven’t checked out the Galaxy A series, you can do so here.

Reasons To Buy:

At this price point, it’s just about figuring out what you need, and what you can live without. If 5G and a big screen to stream and watch videos are your highest priorities, why spend more?

Reasons To Pass:

The aforementioned large, 6.6″ OLED display is too low resolution. Lower-quality build than most that ranked higher.

Amazon $350

8. OnePlus Nord N10 5G

OnePlus Nord N10 5G

  • CPU: Snapdragon 690
  • Storage: 128 GB
  • OS: Android 11.0

For a $300 phone, this isn’t a bad deal, at all. Remember live headphone jacks?

However, the Nord N10 doesn’t really compare to the seven above it, 5G notwithstanding.

Reasons To Buy:

The price would probably allow you to smile through its minor lagging issues. Just don’t scroll too fast.

Reasons To Pass:

You didn’t come here to see the best phone for under $300.
