Netflix Buys Fight Entertainment

Netflix has purchased its third gaming company, Fight Entertainment. Since the popular streaming service announced it would be expanding into the gaming industry, it has already acquired Night School Studio, and Next Games.

Netflix still has an extremely long way to go to achieve a dominant spot in the gaming market, but 3 companies within the first year of announcing such a lofty endeavor, is fairly impressive.

With competition like Microsoft and Sony, and their extremely loyal and well-established fan bases, respectively, Netflix has already made their plan clear: to take advantage of the large, well known properties they already have; their owned intellectual properties.

Mike Verdu, who leads Netflix’s gaming push after working at Facebook and Electronic Arts, said Netflix intended to distinguish itself using the brand appeal of its shows, which could be turned into games. A game based on a Netflix hit, even though Netflix is not yet established for making games, could be a success based on recognition, alone.
